The official route map for the 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade sets the start at the tip of Lido Isle at 6:30 p.m. It lists Harbor Island at 8:18 p.m. The Pacific Coast Highway bridge follows at 8:26, Bay Shores Community Beach at 8:30 and Balboa Bay Resort at 8:35.
That leaves nearly two hours between the first boat leaving Lido and the fleet reaching Harbor Island. The parade's own schedule fills part of that gap. Each night at 8:15, a holiday drone show goes up over Balboa Bay Resort, three minutes before the parade's listed arrival at Harbor Island. In this part of the harbor, the drones and the boats come one right after the other, about twenty minutes from start to finish, so the evening can start late.
The parade runs Wednesday through Sunday, December 16 to 20, 2026, and the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting again. It starts about six weeks from today. For waterfront owners, one key date comes well before that.
Lower Newport Bay's stretch of the route, mark by mark
The organizer's 2026 route map gives an estimated time for each of its 57 marks. These are the marks around the bridge, along with the drone show that comes just before them.
| Time | What passes or begins | Map mark |
|---|---|---|
| 8:11 p.m. | Balboa Island Bridge and Newport Beach Yacht Club | 37, 38 |
| 8:15 p.m. | Second drone show of the night over Balboa Bay Resort | Drone schedule |
| 8:18 p.m. | Harbor Island | 39 |
| 8:26 p.m. | Tavern House Kitchen + Bar, PCH Bridge, and SOL Mexican Cocina | 40, 41 |
| 8:30 p.m. | Bay Shores Community Beach | 42 |
| 8:35 p.m. | Balboa Bay Resort | 43 |
| 8:38 to 8:39 p.m. | Orange Coast College Crew Base, Newport Sea Base | 44, 45 |
| 9:00 p.m. | Finish at the tip of Lido Isle | 57 |
Earlier in the evening, the boats pass Marina Park at 6:54 and the Balboa Fun Zone at 7:15. They reach Pirate's Cove at 7:32, then wind around Balboa Island before turning toward the bridge. When the fleet reaches Harbor Island, the crowds at the Peninsula have already seen it pass. From Harbor Island to Balboa Bay Resort, the bay gets the fleet in its last half hour.
Two drone shows each night, and the later one is timed for the bridge
The organizer describes the drone shows as visible "from both ends of the harbor." One goes up over Balboa Bay Resort and the other over Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone. Each site runs twice a night, but the two schedules are set differently.
- Balboa Bay Club: 6:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, then 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
- Peninsula Park: 6:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. every night.
The Peninsula Park shows come while the boats are near that end of the harbor. The 6:45 show comes shortly before the fleet passes Marina Park and the Fun Zone. At the Balboa Bay site, the early show goes up before the parade has even left Lido, and the late show comes just before the boats arrive at Harbor Island. Anyone watching from the bridge or Bay Shores can see the 8:15 show and then the parade's arrival without moving.
The early show offers a second option. On Thursday through Sunday, the 6:15 drones over Balboa Bay Resort come more than two hours before the parade reaches the resort at 8:35. That is enough time for a full dinner on Coast Highway, with a return to the water by 8:15.
Dinner can come before the boats
The parade publishes a Dine & Watch list of waterfront restaurants, each matched to its time on the map. The list notes that these restaurants "fill up early." Three are in this part of the bay.
- A+O Restaurant | Bar at Balboa Bay Resort, 1221 W. Coast Hwy, (949) 630-4285. Listed at 8:35 p.m., the same mark as the resort on the route map.
- Tavern House Kitchen + Bar, 333 Bayside Dr, (949) 673-8464. Shares mark 40 with the PCH Bridge at 8:26 p.m.
- SOL Mexican Cocina, 251 E. Coast Hwy, (949) 675-9800. Mark 41, also at 8:26 p.m.
At restaurants along the Peninsula, the boats pass before 7 p.m., so dinner and the parade come at once. On this stretch, a 6:30 or 7 p.m. seating ends at about the time the boats arrive. With the parade passing at 8:26 or 8:35, these restaurants are among the last viewing stops on the Dine & Watch list. A table there makes the meal and the parade one evening, in that order.
The organizer also lists Mariner's Mile neighbors further along. Rusty Pelican is at 8:43, and Billy's at the Beach and Louie's by the Bay are both at 8:44. From the PCH bridge to Louie's by the Bay, the fleet passes every one of these tables within about 20 minutes.
Opening night pulls everything earlier
Wednesday, December 16 has an earlier schedule than the other four nights. A special fireworks display off Newport Pier is set for about 6:15 p.m. to open the parade, if federal, state and local safety guidelines allow. The Balboa Bay Club drone show goes up at 6:00 that night instead of 6:15.
Marina Park, at 1600 W Balboa Blvd, hosts a free opening-night event from 4 to 8 p.m. The organizer lists a holiday market with more than 35 local makers, plus food vendors, live music and children's activities. The parade calls the 10.5-acre park the largest public viewing location on the route, and it has 177 parking spaces.
On December 16, someone from Harbor Island or Bay Shores can drive to the Peninsula for the market, fireworks and the 6:54 pass at Marina Park, then come back across the harbor. Or they can stay near home and watch the 8:15 drones and the boats' 8:18-to-8:35 run from the bay side. The map's own advice for every night is "Arrive early for best viewing and parking." On opening night, that matters more in Balboa Village than near the bridge.
For bayfront owners, the deadline comes before the parade
Every waterfront property on the route can also take part through the Ring of Lights. This is the parade's decorating competition for homes, businesses and yacht clubs along the harbor. The organizer says it has its own judged categories and prizes and "has become as celebrated as the boat parade itself." Registrants also have a chance to appear in the parade's live broadcast.
The Ring of Lights runs on an earlier schedule than the parade.
- Entry fee: $35, paid through the online form.
- Registration deadline: before noon on Friday, December 11, 2026.
- Judging: Monday, December 14, 2026. The organizer asks entrants to have decorations in place by then.
- Questions: the Chamber at (949) 729-4400.
Judging takes place two days before the first boat leaves Lido. A Harbor Island or Bay Shores home that waits until parade week to put up its lights will miss judging, even though the boats do not reach the bridge until two days later. With entries due at noon on Friday, December 11, and judging the following Monday, the lights need to be up by the weekend of December 12 and 13. Entry is open on the Ring of Lights registration page.
A bayfront home in this stretch is in view for the whole late part of the night. The 8:15 drones are overhead, and the fleet passes between 8:18 and 8:35. People at the waterfront tables on Coast Highway and Bayside Drive look across the same water. On parade nights, the lights on these homes are part of what everyone at this end of the bay sees.
For five nights each December, the parade passes waterfront homes on Harbor Island and along Bay Shores. If you own on this stretch of the bay and want to know where your property stands this season, Jacqueline Thompson Group can provide a confidential market valuation or a private consultation.
