NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Santa Barbara-style homes are known for red clay roofs, whitewashed exterior stucco walls, ornate ironwork, rounded archways and rustic elements. The 6,137-square-foot home at 51 Copper Creek in Irvine is a modern interpretation of the traditional style, with a “lighter hand,” according to the description by the seller’s agent, Jacqueline Thompson of Surterre Properties.
The result is that the five-bedroom, 5 ½-bath home has an atmosphere of openness and light. Nearly every room has a picture window that showcases the countryside views of rolling hills and canyons. The home, which sits on more than half an acre, sold on Nov. 25 for $4.1 million, off its $4.5 million September asking price.
There’s also a climate-controlled wine cellar, a butler’s pantry and a media room. Outside, there’s a front courtyard with a fountain and a cobblestone motor court. The home is a former Orange County Philharmonic House of Design, a fundraiser in which Orange County interior designers transform a home into a showcase, then invite the public to buy tickets to tour it.
The homes are the primary annual fundraiser for the Philharmonic Society’s youth music education programs. Thompson represented the seller in the transaction, and Donald Abrams of Abrams Coastal Properties represented the buyer.
